Common phrases we hear at our health clinic:

“My mind isn’t what it used to be!”
“I can’t think straight.”
“I can’t remember anything.”
“I can’t articulate well.”
“I find myself lacking focus.”
“I’m embarrassed because I forget what I am saying”
“I’ve always been an intelligent woman.”
“I’m afraid I’ll lose my job if anyone knew I was going through this”
“I feel like I am losing my mind/going crazy!”

It is challenging enough to be dealing with physical and emotional challenges, however, when one feels like their mind is going, it puts a whole new spin on the situation because the thing we’ve come to count on – our mental faculties and intrinsic fortitude associated with that – seems to be failing.

Often times, women tend to increase their caffeine intake in an effort to fix and/cope with these changes that are occurring as a result of changes in their hormone levels. While it seems to make sense at the moment, it is just a band-aid since it is not addressing the root cause and, ultimately, that tactic results in an increase in hormonal dysfunction which exacerbates the current state. Compounding the situation, we frequently see a cycle beginning where there is excess stimulant ingestions (e.g. coffee, tea, yerba mate and even ADHD meds) which leads to a wired sensation (and often impaired sleep) that is counterbalanced with depressants like alcohol to negate the stimulant effects.

So now what was once a moderate problem has become a severe problem!

Is that you? Is that someone you love?

You are NOT alone and there are solutions!! Naturopathic Medicine is a POWERFUL intervention for long term health. You want your brain back and nature can give it to you. Remember, we are unique individuals and there is no “one size fits all” approach to you/your health BUT here are a few simple tricks (not medical advice since I am not your doctor):

  1. See your doctor to rule out emergent medical conditions
  2. Exercise (cardio & weight training)
  3. Learn a new language
  4. Play brain games
  5. Drink ½ your body weight in ounces (150 lbs = 75 oz.)
  6. Eat the rainbow (not the drive-thru)
  7. Sleep at least 7 hours a night
  8. Engage in joyful activities
  9. Reduce stress (say no when you don’t want to do something)
  10. Consider botanicals, supplements and bioidentical hormones (discuss with your Naturopathic Doctor)

When you are able to recapture your focus and memory you will feel RENEWED, RESTORED, REBALANCED, & REINVIGORATED.
